Daily Prayers (Nitnem)

Nitnem is the set of prayers a Sikh reads each day. A short, sourced note on each — the banis themselves are read from the Guru Granth Sahib and the Dasam Granth.

  • Japji Sahib ਜਪੁਜੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ

    Morning (Amrit Vela)

The morning prayer composed by Guru Nanak that opens the Guru Granth Sahib — a foundational meditation on the nature of God and the path to the divine.

  • Jaap Sahib ਜਾਪੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ

    Morning (Amrit Vela)

A morning prayer by Guru Gobind Singh praising the attributes and formlessness of God, recited as part of the daily nitnem.

  • Rehras Sahib ਰਹਿਰਾਸ ਸਾਹਿਬ

    Evening

The evening prayer, a collection of hymns recited at dusk to give thanks and seek strength at the close of the day.

  • Kirtan Sohila ਕੀਰਤਨ ਸੋਹਿਲਾ

    Night

The night prayer recited before sleep, composed of hymns on the impermanence of life and union with the divine.

  • Ardas ਅਰਦਾਸ

    Any time

The formal Sikh supplication offered at the close of most prayers and ceremonies, remembering the Gurus and the community and asking for grace.
